

Osie “Jewell” Wood, 84, of Opelika, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at East Alabama Medical Center. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016 in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road Columbus, GA 31907, at 11:00am EST.
Ms. Wood, daughter of the late Ruby Leland Wood and Osie Gleaton Wood, was born April 18, 1932 in Allenville, Alabama. She devoted her life to Nursing; she received her Bachelor’s Degree of Health Education from the Columbus City Hospital School of Nursing as well as a Master’s Degree in Vocational Education. Ms. Wood held many nursing positions throughout her life including Private Duty Nursing. In her later years, she taught Nursing at Dade County Public School in Miami, FL. where she later retired. Ms. Wood was a Missionary and traveled to many places including Peru. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Auburn.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Ms. Wood is survived by her sister, Barbara Mitchell (Pete); her adopted children, Joseph Richardson (Cheryl) and Herlem Coker (Roger); grandson, Mathew Coker; close relatives, Dena M. Jones (Gregory), Debbie M. Auditore (Frank), Donna M. Wooster (Robert); numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
