

A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, followed by a celebration of life funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Fisher Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Reverend Bobby John Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
Pat was born in Sumter County, GA on August 24, 1942, to the late Emmitt Wise and Jane Tissue Wise. She was a long-time resident of Columbus, and she retired from Civil Service at Ft. Benning, GA. Pat was preceded in death by 2 sons, Guavan Del Moon and William Alan Lafferty.
Pat grew up in Bibb City, GA and was baptized at Oaks Ave Baptist Church and attended Porter Memorial Church. Pat attended Jordan Vocational High School (JVHS), graduating in 1961. During her high school years, she played first-chair clarinet in the in JVHS High School Band and performed as a Drum Majorette.
Pat competed in the Miss Georgia pageant in Columbus and came in a runner-up. Years later Pat and daughter Breanna attended and completed in Little Miss Beauty contests throughout Georgia and Alabama which she enjoyed, and it created a lasting bond between her and Breanna. Pat herself acted in two plays as the lead character in “Alice in Wonderland” and “Norman is that you” while living on Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA.
In 1972 while working out as civil service Secretary at Fort Benning, GA. Pat married her husband Jon at the Martin Army Hospital Chapel. She retired at Fort Benning in 1993. Pat owned a florist at one time and created beautiful arrangements. Pat liked sports and encouraged both sons Bill and Jon to play baseball, she coached T-Ball for them and supported them through little league and high school. Pat and Jon would watch baseball and football together on TV throughout the years of their marriage. Pat really liked to play cards, and it didn’t matter whether it was at home, out with the boys, or at casinos. Pat usually came away as a winner.
Pat was always excited about being able to visit foreign countries that husband Jon was assigned to or ones they went to on cruises. She was able to visit Nassau, Jamaica, Mexico, Korea, Spain, England, Austria, France, and the Netherlands. Pat also lived in Germany and Turkey when Jon was stationed there. Enjoyed the different cultures, foods, and the people.
Pat was a beautiful person at heart and always believed in her God and Savior Jesus Christ. Pat was a loving and faithful wife to her husband Jon of 53 years. Pat always gave her strongest and enduring love and nurturing to her children and grandchildren. Also, the fur babies too!
Survivors include her loving husband Jon C. Lafferty of Columbus, son, Jon P. Lafferty of Tallahassee, FL, daughter, Breanna Locker of Lincoln, AL, 13 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
