

Patricia "Patsy" Gay Sims Myrick August 10, 1931 - April 6, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Patricia "Patsy" Gay Sims Myrick, age 78, was born August 10, 1931 in Rome, GA, daughter of the late Kathryn Allen Sims and Hix Davis Sims of Rome, GA. She attended Girls High School in Rome and graduated in 1948, then attended the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Patsy met "the love of her life" John Myrick, Jr. at the University of Georgia; they were married in 1951. Patsy lived most of her life in Columbus, GA. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus from 1968 to the present. Before that she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rome, GA. She was an active member of the Joy Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church where she served as the treasurer for many years. She also served on the flower committee, and was also a member of Bible Study #2 for many years. She was a member of the Mohina Garden Club, and the Azalea Garden Club. Patsy loved gardening, growing African violets, china painting, needle crafts, and cooking. She also loved going to the beach. But most of all she was devoted to her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, John Myrick, Jr. of Columbus; one daughter, Susan Myrick Allaway and her husband, Tim of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Tripp Myrick of Columbus, and Hix David Myrick and his wife Toni of Columbus; two grandchildren, Sarah Patricia Allaway and Mackenzie Annette Myrick. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 in the Porter Chapel of First Baptist Church of Columbus with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. At the conclusion of the service the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church of Columbus.
