OBITUARY
Peggy Wamble Hawkins
October 11, 1941 – January 12, 2021
Peggy Wamble Hawkins, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on January 12th, 2021 at 3:30 in the morning, in Columbus, GA. She was born on October 11th, 1941, in Geneva County, Alabama to Bessie George Wamble and Oris Wamble.
Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love – love for her family and friends, that can never be replaced or forgotten. If you were to ask her to name a few things in this world she loved more than anything, she would tell you Jesus, her husband, and her girls. At a young age, Peggy found Christ and created a foundation of her strong faith for her family to follow on. There was never a moment she was not leading her family in prayer, around the dining room table or pursuing the Lord with us, as we found Christ for ourselves.
Being married to her surviving husband, Ronald Hawkins, for 61 years set an example of life and love to everyone that surrounded them. To know her was to know what it truly felt like to be loved whole-heartedly.
She spent her early adult years raising her two daughters, Cathy Hawkins Epperly (David Epperly) and Rhonda Hawkins Pierce (Jonathan Pierce), who later gave her three beautiful grandchildren – Lindsey Epperly Sulek (Jeremy Sulek), Lauren Pierce, and Allison Pierce – who she adored more than anything in this world and from that point on, she was better known as “Nana”. There was never a sporting event, school function, or family gathering that she missed. Nana was, and always will be, our biggest supporter. 2020 brought a lot of confusion and hard times to this world, but the one thing it brought Nana was the gift of being a great-grandmother to a beautiful baby girl, Mila Sulek, which was something she always longed to be.
In her 79 years, she poured love into each and every person she knew, lived life to the fullest, and gave us memories to hold onto, until we all meet again, at the pearly gates of Heaven.
Proverbs 31:31 – “Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” (NIV)

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Peggy. I worked with her many years ago. She was always kind to me. Although we lost touch with each other when I moved to Hawaii, I was so pleased when she emailed me after getting my address from another friend that also worked with us. We were thrilled to connect back up, and that started a long string of emails catching up on our lives. I could definitely tell she lived a full life, and she loved her family. She was so happy about the birth of her first great grandchild. I have no doubt she is in Heaven watching over her family. May she rest in peace. My sincere condolences to her family.

Nana was such a sweet and loving soul. She will be missed and was such a special and amazing person. Having only knowing her for a year, it was well known how great of a wife, mother, and grandmama she was. Sending prayers to the entire family. Love y’all very much.

Peggy, I will always remember our days in Civilian Personnel at Fort Benning and all I learned from you. Although you were so sick these past few weeks you called to comfort me. You expressed no concern about your own health but provided me words of encouragement that God would see me through.
To Ronnie and Family I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how much Peggy loved her family. I personally know the depth of pain and I will keep you in my prayers. As Peggy told me "God will see you through just keep believing and trusting in him."
My Deepest Sympathy

Peggy I will miss you more than I can express. I have always respected and admired you and cared deeply for you. I am so proud that I can call you my friend. We worked together for many years and become friends after I returned to Georgia in 2012. We had lunches in restaurants within a 50 mile radius, games at your house (which you and Linda always won), and church services.

I worked with Peggy many years ago at Ft. Benning, Georgia. She was an example for those of us who followed behind her. She taught me a lot about the functions of the Personnel Office, about hard and honorable work and about empathy. She will be missed. My love and condolences to her family.
