Peggy Joan Poe Slaughter, 90, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on February 11, 2025. She was born in Columbus, Georgia on February 10, 1935 to the late Annie Cain Poe and John H. Poe. Peggy was a lifelong resident of Columbus, Georgia. She worked for the Medical Center as an administrative assistant, the Columbus Housing Authority and in her later years with the Muscogee County School District as a Crossing Guard for Richards Middle School and Clubview Elementary School. Peggy loved to shop, and she loved to cook for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved her.
She is survived by her son, Ricky Earl Slaughter; her grandson: Justin Brice Greer (Kasi) of Wichita Falls, TX; two great granddaughters: Harper Mae and Aubri Ann (Whom Peggy adored); sister-in-law, Ann W. Slaughter of Phenix City, AL; along with several nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Peggy was preceded in death by her sons: Billy Ty Preston and Bradford Neal Slaughter; her parents Annie and John Poe; her brothers John H. Poe, Jr. and Billy J. Poe; and her sister, Lillie Poe Foxworth.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at 4:00 PM in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, Georgia 31907. Burial will be Private in Parkhill Cemetery.
