

Philip R. Torres December 5, 1939 - May 7, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA — CAPT (Ret) Philip R. Torres, age 70, resident of Columbus, died on Friday, May 7, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Friday, May 14, 2010, 11 a.m. with Chaplain (Major) Edward Ohm officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. CAPT Torres, son of the late Frank C. Torres and Jenie Rosado Torres, was born December 5, 1939 in Honolulu, HI. He was Catholic by faith and a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Al Sirah Shrine, and was an avid bowler. CAPT Torres served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for 26 years. For his honorable and brave service in the military, he received several medals and ribbons, to include the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars; and the Combat Infantryman Badge. CAPT Torres is survived by his wife, Hannelore Torres of Columbus; three daughters, Kathy Robertson of Caldwell, ID, Teresa Berni and her husband Steve of Phenix City, AL, and Priscilla Mosley and her husband Michael of Waldorf, MD; one son, Philip Torres, Jr and his wife Dolores of Hampton, VA; three sisters; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
