

SFC (Ret) Raymond C. Reyes, age 76, resident of Columbus, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Monday, February 11, 2013, 1 p.m. with Father Gerard Schreck officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 10, 2013 from 2-4 p.m.
Raymond, the son of the late Alfred Reyes and Beatriz Reyes, was born in Santa Maria, Texas. He was retired from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably for 23 years to include serving in the Vietnam Era Conflict. After his military retirement he began a career at AFLAC, retiring with over 18 years of faithful service. After retirement, he then enjoyed traveling the country and cruising the oceans with his beloved wife of 51 years, Elfriede. He had four wonderful daughters that he loved very dearly and also three grandchildren that he enjoyed spending time with and watching them grow into fine young adults. Raymond is survived by his wife, Elfriede Reyes; four daughters, Diana Reyes Spicer and her husband Curtis, Terry Dyer, Tammy Reyes, and Simone Reyes, all of Columbus; two sisters, Mary Pando of Wichita, Kansas and Josephine Marsh and her husband Paul of Wellington, Kansas; three brothers, Alfred Reyes and his wife Alta of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mike Reyes and his wife Frances of Wichita, Kansas, and Erazmo Reyes and his wife Nancy, also of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Whittney Dyer, Logan Clark, and Nicole Clark, all of Columbus; and his beloved dog, Max which was like another child to him; a companion to Raymond, always knowing when returning from a dinner, food would be coming for Max as well; a companion always knowing that after returning from a vacation, Raymond was coming back to Max; a companion that was always there for Raymond…truly, this man’s best friend; other relatives and friends. .
