Renate was born on September 3, 1937 in Hanau, Germany to the late Maria Frishchkorn. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Atkinson and siblings, Annemarie, Gunther, Lottie, Lydia, Birgitta.
She met the love of her life Jack and they were married in 1957. As an Army wife, she traveled with Jack everywhere, after his retirement they settled in Columbus. She was a loving wife, mother, and “Oma”. Renate loved going to the Casino’s and traveling. She was affectionately known as “Oma” and was thought of highly by her friends; who say she would do anything to help a person in need. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Teha and Chase and her great grandchildren. Her home was always open to everyone and she would often have her children’s friends over on Christmas Eve. Renate loved gardening and keeping her yard full of flowers. She also enjoyed shopping.
Renate was a Beautician in Columbus for many years and was loved by her customers. She had many friends and was friends to many. She loved animals especially her two “grand dogs” Stormy and Calli.
She is survived by a son; Ben Atkinson (Emily) of Columbus and a daughter; Barbara Atkinson of Columbus, a sister; Utta of Germany, two grandchildren; Teha Lee (Jonathan) and Chase Atkinson (Heather), five great grandchildren; Dillon Arnette, Olivia Arnette, Kadance Lee, Serinity Lee and Jack Atkinson and her two grand dogs; Stormy & Calli.
Renate will be greatly missed by all who loved her. However, she is now with her precious Jack, her Prince Charming.
