Richard D. Berard, age 73, resident of Whitesburg, Georgia, passed away at his residence on Monday, July 16, 2018. Graveside services are scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia on Thursday, July 19, 2018, 10 a.m. with Father Barry Stanton officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus.
Mr. Berard, son of the late Leo Hector Berard and Dorothy Jean Shirey, was born June 13, 1945 at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Pine Mountain, Georgia and retired from Bellsouth where he faithfully worked for over 30 years. Mr. Berard was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served his country honorably during the Vietnam Era Conflict. He was a very patriotic man; Member of the Sons of the Confederacy; loved cars; telling stories; and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with the Central Carroll Marching Pride High School Band. But more than anything, he loved his family and in particular spending time as a grandfather to his granddaughter, Taylor. Mr. Berard will be remembered as a determined, genuine man who helped many people through the years.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Berard of Whitesburg, Georgia; one daughter, Jennifer Jean Reese and her husband Mike of Carrollton, Georgia; one son, Richard S. Berard of Panama City Beach, Florida; one granddaughter, Taylor Reese; one step-grandson, Michael Reese; three sisters, Alice Berard Carr and her husband Earl, Lana Berard Rains and her husband Jamie, and Donna Berard Roper and her husband Earl; two brothers, Leo Charles Berard and his wife Kay and Michael Louis Berard; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
