
He was the son of the late Julian Dexter Edge and Mildred Castellow Edge of Columbus. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and West Georgia College and obtained a Master's degree in Accounting from Georgia State University. After becoming a CPA, he worked as an auditor for the Southern Company in Atlanta before returning to Columbus to join Parkhill Cemetery, the family business, serving as Vice-President. He was President of Edge Realty & Investments, LLC, and was known as a fair-minded landlord and employer who was willing to give people a second chance.
Each year, he played Santa Claus for churches, Easter Seals, Rotary and other non-profits and raised money for the Salvation Army with private engagements. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club for over 36 years, with 19 years of perfect attendance. He was a member of Green Island Country Club, the Big Eddy Club and the Fish House Crowd.
He loved cooking for family and friends and was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Thwaite Edge, daughters Tracey Edge Durham of Birmingham, Kelley Edge Davis (Thadd) of Knoxville and Kristin Edge Hunt of Chattanooga and son Richard C. Edge, Jr., of Atlanta. He embraced his step-children Elizabeth W. Beasley (Charles) of Durham and Andrew C. Beasley of Nashville and loved his grandchildren Courtney Oliver Sams (Caleb), Charles Caldwell Hunt and Evelyn Isabel Davis.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 6 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery with visitation beforehand beginning at 2:00 PM. Dr. Jimmy Elder will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Easter Seals of Columbus, Columbus Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
