

Mr. Richard A. Steinhausen, Jr., age 68, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on February 26, 2012. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 3:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
Mr. Steinhausen was born on September 8, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Richard A., Sr. and Mary Jean Steinhausen. Mr. Steinhausen served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving two tours of duty. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska then going on to attain dual master's degrees from Cornell University and Creighton University. He was retired from Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Georgia as Executive Vice President. Mr. Steinhausen enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He was also an avid hunter, having recently made a trip to Africa with his brother-in-law and hunting buddy Allan, which they called "the hunt of a lifetime." Mr. Steinhausen also enjoyed history and the arts. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Other than his parents, Mr. Steinhausen was preceded in death by a sister, Gayle Morris.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Steinhausen of Phenix City, AL; five children, Randall Steinhausen (Robin) of Pennsylvania, Mark Steinhausen (Robin) of New Jersey, Traci Cafarella (John) of New Jersey, Jeralynne Cecilio (Viorel) of Illinois and Brandon Williams (Jayme) of Phenix City, AL; seven grandchildren, Emily, Brittany, Mark, Adam, Alli, Ashley and Haley; a sister, Beverly Mirmelstein (Alvin) of Virginia; and in-laws, Allan Watley of Hatchechubbee, AL, Linda and Richard Sanders of Smiths, AL, Mike and Dottie Hatchell of Albuquerque, NM and Billy and Lequita Watley of Columbus, GA; three pets, Dunkin, Sasha Jean and Casper Jo; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
