Columbus, Georgia- Robert Luther Durham, 78 of Columbus, Georgia died Sunday August 4, 2013 at his home.
Funeral services for Mr. Durham will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907 with Reverend David Helms officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Durham, a pharmacist, received his Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from Auburn University in 1957. Upon his graduation, Mr. Durham was employed as a pharmacist at Booth Drugs, Lane Drugs Company and Yarborough Drug before becoming a partner at St. Elmo Pharmacy in 1958. In 1966, he opened Durham's Pharmacy where he and his family continue to serve the Columbus community. He became the President of D and W Economy Drug in 1971 and served in that capacity until its closure and was a member of East Highland Methodist Church.
Luther's favorite pastime was working in the pharmacy, serving his customers and friends and loving his family.
Mr. Durham was born to Walter Roy Durham and Dessie Mary Lou Hasty Durham on October 22, 1934.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dala Moon Durham, two sons, Robert Luther Durham Jr., Vicki Durham, Stanley James (Linda) Durham, his grandchildren, Robert Wesley Durham, Lesley (Eric) Hartwell, Lindsay and Elizabeth Durham, great-grandchildren, Tatum and Austin Hartwell, numerous nieces, nephews and god children.
In addition to his parents, Luther is preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
