Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. with Reverend Jerry Speer officiating. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bob was born on October 30, 1959 in Jacksonville, FL. to the late Calvin Nicholas Kidd and Carolyn Hampton Kidd. He was an active member of Northside Baptist Church where he served on various committees, which include the Finance Committee, and the Teller & Usher Committee; Bob also served as a Deacon, and a Sunday School Teacher.
Bob graduated from Auburn University where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture in 1983. He also was a graduate from the Harvard University School of Design, the Public School Planning and Design Program and the Executive Education Program. Bob was an active member of the Historic Columbus Foundation, Board of Directors, 2011-present, Executive Board, 2013-present, the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley Board of Directors, 2010-present and the Executive Board, 2014-2017. He has been a member of the Columbus Board of Historic and Architectural Review since 2010. Bob was a member of the Rotary Club of Columbus, Kiwanis Club, Leadership Columbus Alumni and the Muscogee Education Excellence Foundation since 2007 and Chairman from 2009-2010.
Since joining Hecht Burdeshaw Architects in 1987, Bob has directed interdisciplinary teams through all phases of planning, design and implementation, from initial master planning and conceptual design, to detailed design, documentation and construction administration. Bob’s success is based upon a philosophy of practice that is noted for an intelligent approach to the design process and a very deep respect for the needs of the client and the project. He has extensive knowledge of design and construction techniques and practices. Some of Bob’s projects include, Feeding the Valley, Mercer University School of Medicine, Dorothy Height Elementary School (No 7), Easter Seals of West Georgia, the Valley Healthcare System (South Columbus), the Columbus Hospice House Building Addition, Northside High School Auditorium and the Columbus Public Library. Bob was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Joyce S. Kidd of Columbus, a son, Robert Nicholas Kidd, Jr. and his wife, Brandi and their children, Caiden Hill Kidd, Brayden Kyler Kidd and Paisley Rae Kidd of Smiths Station, AL. two brothers, William Kidd (Andi ) of St. Petersburg, FL. and James Kidd (Jennifer) of Columbus, GA. and several nieces and nephews.
