Although Bob spent many years with dementia he was an example of faith and courage and acceptance. Bob had a gentle spirit and kind heart throughout his life. Bob was born in Stockton, California and although growing up he lived in Washington State and Kansas he moved back to California after graduating from high school in Wichita, Kansas. Bob resided in Stockton until 2013 when his dementia worsened and he came to Columbus, Georgia. He lived at Muscogee Manor and then Orchard View to be close to his sister. Bob worked for a veterinary hospital in Stockton, California for many years and later worked at Alegre Trucking Company for eight years until his illness prevented him to continue.
Bob was an outdoorsman. He loved to camp, hike, and fish. He loved adventure and camped throughout many areas of the United States. He also traveled in Mexico and throughout Europe. He loved all animals and when on his hiking trips was eager to see mountain goats and big horn sheep. Bob even had an iguana as a pet. Bob had many skills. He was very good at photography capturing the beauty of the outdoors and wildlife. He was an artist and what he captured in photographs or gleaned with his eyes he painted using many mediums. His pictures were masterpieces to those who were blessed to receive them. As a result of his knowledge and love of growing and nurturing bonsai trees he was a docent at the California State Fair for many years. He also studied pottery and made many beautiful treasured pieces for friends and family. One of Bob’s annual trips was to Bishop where he attended “Mule Days”. Bob loved people and cared deeply for them. When a woman went missing in the mountains of California he served as a tracker in an effort to find her. He also cared for our Dad especially during his last days here on earth. Bob was a member of the Sons of the Golden West and the Bonsai Organization.
He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Krause of Stockton, California and Patricia Krause of Phenix City, Alabama.
The family would like to express gratitude to all of those who provided such loving care to Bob throughout his journey with dementia. Bob was blessed by his friendship with his supervisor, Dan Ruoff, for the last eight years that he was able to work. Dan states that Bob was dependable and performed his duties meticulously and was always easy-going and pleasant to be around. Dan assisted Bob in the early stages of his illness, selflessly helping Bob with doctor appointments, finances, and preparations to relocate to Georgia. Dan says that Bob was “an angel in disguise” giving him a purpose. We thank Dan for being “an angel in disguise” to Bob giving evidence of how our Father in heaven uses all things to His good purposes. We want to thank all of the staff and caregivers at Muscogee Manor and Orchard View for the loving care provided to Bob. We also express gratitude to Columbus Hospice during these past weeks.
