Robert Hezekiah Land, 94, of Duluth, Georgia, entered his heavenly home on January 8, 2024. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 3707 at 1:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm, concluding with a committal service at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
Robert was born in Columbus, Georgia on August 8, 1929 to the late May Eugenia and Taylor Lokey Land. He graduated Columbus High School in 1947 and attended Columbus Tech in Columbus, Georgia. He married the love of his life, Sandra Cunningham Land and remained her faithful and loving partner for 56 years. Robert was an Executive at Texaco Corporation after serving in the United States Marine Corps with the 6th Fleet USS Macon in the Mediterranean Sea during the Korean War. He attended Wynnton Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia and was a devoted servant to the Lord.
Robert was very artistic and creative. He was a builder of vintage hobby trains and planes and is remembered as a history Buff, especially with Military history. He had vast knowledge of all things Western specifically the 1800's era. Robert’s second career and primary hobby was as collector & dealer of antique firearms, specializing in Colt and Winchester brands. He was a leather worker for intricate Western-style belts, gun holsters, accessories and traveled extensively for over 50 years to gun shows all over the country to buy sell and trade firearms. He was regarded as an authority in the business of antique firearms and Western memorabilia. Robert was also an avid sports fan, especially Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Falcons, Georgia Bulldogs. He loved his family and was unconditionally loved by his family. Robert will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra Land; children, Laurie Land Freemen and her husband Tom, Michael Land and his wife Mary, William Land and his wife Bridget, and Sandi Land Cheek; grandchildren, Taylor Jordan Binkley and her husband Scott, Ashley Cheek, Jake Land, Jennifer Carmack, and Chris Land; several nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Taylor Lokey Land and Eugenia Land Reaves, and Thomas Reaves; son, Ray Cauley Jr.; and sisters, Jean Land and Joanne Land Brown.
