Robert D. “Robbie” Long, age 62, passed from this life and into the arms of the Lord on Friday, May 15, 2026. Robbie was born in Columbus, Georgia on September 19, 1963, to his devoted parents Martha Helen Gibson Long and Robert Dearing Long. He was always willing to give hugs, fist bumps and smiles to his many friends and family members and was dearly loved in return. One of his proudest achievements was graduating from Baker High School in 1985. He loved his scrapbooks and notebooks and showed them to everyone who visited. He loved the extensive collection of clown figurines he was given over the years and his sweet cat Thomas. He was a huge Atlanta Braves fan and got to “sit in the good seats” at a game a few years ago. He especially enjoyed going to Hilton Terrace Baptist Church and worshiping with his parents, where his mother played the organ for many years. He also liked going to their Wednesday night dinners and was an usher during Sunday services.
Robbie was preceded in passing by his parents, his grandparents John and Burma Gibson, aunts Rubye Gibson, Dorothy Gibson and Vivian “Bibbie” Gibson, uncles Aubrey Gibson and Wortham Gibson, cousins Loretta Britt, Bill Gibson and Leanne Williamson. Left to cherish our memories are First cousins Renee Gibson Bell (Alan) of Lynn Haven, Florida and Shirley Gibson Williamson (Jimmy) of Columbus, Georgia, Second cousins Adam Bell, Zachary Bell, Brad Williamson, Heather Felberg, Teresa Fernquist, Stacey Davis and several third cousins.
During the years after his parents’ passing, Robbie was fortunate to have a group of dedicated caregivers who came to know him as one of their own and he thought of them as family. Our family wishes to extend our gratitude to them for all they have done for him for the last nine years. Grace Ward, Lisa Quintanilla, Jessica Johnson, Kenya Davis-Brinson, Betty Short and his Guardian Sheri Nicholson. We love you all for your selflessness and quality of care for Robbie.
Visitation will be at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907 on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM followed by a service at 11:00 AM.
