Robert Thomas McCrimmon was born on July 18, 1940. His earthly life ended peacefully on August 11, 2024. A Graveside Service with full Military Honors for Robert will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 AL Highway-165, Fort Mitchell, AL.
Robert was the son of Lawrence and Willie Mae McCrimmon. He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized. He joined First Baptist Church in Fairmont, NC, and was a faithful member for many years.
Robert was the epitome of love, strength, and humility. He viewed life positively despite any circumstance and alway noted the positives and blessings in every situation. He was a true representation of servant leadership, compassion, and humor, as he became "dad" and "uncle" to some of his fallen soldiers’ children. His kind spirit didn't stop there as he also cared about those who were less fortunate, often donating to various charities. He enjoyed watching sports and his “girlfriend”, Judge Judy. He loved his family and friends fiercely, especially his grandchildren. Robert was beloved by those who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
Robert was reared in Fairmont, NC. He graduated from Rosenwald High School and attended Winston Salem Teachers College (now Winston Salem State University) before joining the United States Army. Robert had an illustrious 28-year military career where he was stationed in locations around the world such as Korea, Vietnam, Panama, and Germany. He ascended the leadership ranks in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant and a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He received the Bronze Star Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster) for Heroism, a Silver Star for Gallantry in Action, and an Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Achievement. During his time in the Army, he was a boxer and was able to achieve Golden Glove status.
He is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Willie Mae McCrimmon; brothers, Wade, James, and Kenneth McCrimmon; granddaughter, Samira Troy; and niece, Michelle McCrimmon-Belsches.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his life partner, Priscilla Dandridge of the home; daughters, Bruneette (Lee) Troy of Spring, TX; Selicsa (Larry) James of Crestview, FL, son; Anthony (Traci) Jackson of Douglasville, GA; two sisters, Lear Hughes of Brooklyn, NY and Phostenia McCrimmon of Fairmont, NC; grandchildren, Osiris, Ibn, Iman, Zahra Troy and Marneisha (Christopher) Theus; god son, Charles Goodwin of Columbus, GA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
