Robert Joseph Powers

Robert Joseph Powers, Sr. 91, of Columbus, GA, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St Francis Hospital. Mr. Powers was born November 15, 1924 in Phenix City, AL to his late parents Emma and Charlie Powers. He graduated from Jordan Vocational High School before joining the Army and serving his country proudly in Europe during WWII. Mr. Powers was the owner of Georgia Roofing and Sheet Metal Co. in Columbus. He was an avid Braves Fan and pulled for GA Tech. Mr. Powers greatest passion was his family, he loved to spend time with them.

The family will welcome guests for visitation Monday, February 15, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Wildwood Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. Graveside Funeral Services will be at Parkhill Cemetery, Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 11:00 am with Reverend Doctor Jimmy Elder officiating.

Along with his parents, Mr. Powers is preceded in death by his loving wife Bernice; daughter Caryn Leigh Powers; two brothers, Bill Powers, and Benjamin Powers; three sisters, Martha Reynolds, Frances Newsom, and Helen Patterson. He is survived by two daughters, Betsey (Richard) Zachry of Hamilton, GA, and Leslie (Ken) Mendenhall of Columbus, GA; two sons, Charles E. Powers, II, of Stockbridge, GA, and Robert J. (Malinda) Powers, Jr. of West Point, GA; eight grandchildren, Allen (Jenny) Zachry, Leigh Zachry (Robbie) Trimble, Ashley Zachry (Wade) Cook, Marian Mendenhall, Kenneth Mendenhall, Charles Powers, John Floyd Powers, and Robert Powers; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
