

A resident of Columbus, GA, for the past 32 years, Bob worked at AFLAC until he retired in 2006. After retiring Bob enjoyed driving the Calvary Christian School bus chauffeuring students to school outings and athletic events and was the administrator of Springlake Subdivision
Bob was born Jan. 13, 1942, in Montgomery, AL, where he graduated Lee High School. He then attended and graduated Troy State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. In his early life he worked in both radio and television and was a news reporter for WTVY in Dothan, Alabama. He found his calling in the business world at Guaranty Savings Life Insurance Company in Montgomery, Alabama. From 1970 until 1986 he lived in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was a Sr. Vice President at Vulcan Life Insurance. He also served as a volunteer firefighter at Bluff Park Fire Department and was in the first class of paramedics to graduate in the state of Alabama. He spent many of his nights teaching Emergency Medical Services at UAB in Birmingham and was also president of the Bluff Park Chapter of the Lion’s Club. He enjoyed the outdoors where he liked to fish, camp, canoe and white water. He had a gregarious nature, a large appetite for life and was known for his great sense of humor. He will be long remembered for his “Bobisms,” jokes and entertaining tales.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Karen E. Shiflett. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Judy E. Shiflett; two children, Robert Shiflett II of Birmingham, AL, and Kenneth Shiflett of Gadsden, AL; two grandchildren, Crescent Shiflett and Cassidy Shiflett; three family dogs, Scooter, Beau, and Sissy; and many wonderful friends; all whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, March 28, 2018, in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler Hamby Mortuary at Parkhill Cemetery, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. A Celebration of Life service will held at 11:00 AM on Thursday March 29, 2018, in Edgewood Hall of Striffler Hamby. Cremation and private burial in Parkhill Cemetery will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Animal Ark Rescue, 7133 Sacerdote Lane, Columbus, GA, or Calvary Christian School, 7556 Old Moon Rd, Columbus, GA, would be appreciated.
