

Funeral Services will be held at Striffler-Hamby in the Edgewood Hall on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Robert Beckum and Reverend Dick Reese officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be private.
Mr. Thompson was born March 24, 1930 in Pennington Gap, Virginia the son of the late Grayson Franklin and Martha Ann Ward Thompson. He moved to Columbus in 1941, was a graduate of Columbus High School, and attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and Columbus State University. He retired after a 30-year career at Blue Cross Blue Shield. In semi-retirement Mr. Thompson worked with the Concerned Care Program at St. Francis Hospital and Hamilton Hardware.
He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church; the Fellowship/Jesus is Lord Sunday School Class, the Coweta Falls Chapter Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Thompson served 12 years in the Georgia National Guard.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Betty D. Thompson, a son, Daniel Grayson Thompson and his wife Andrea; a daughter, Leslie Gay Taunton and her husband, Eddie and their daughter, Lauren Eleanor “Ellie”; a brother-in-law Anthony Allen, nieces Lynne Allen Tate and Jan Allen Henning, great nieces Grayson Tate and Lindsay Campbell, and a great nephew Allen Tate (Ashley and Lee). He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank, and sister, Sue Allen.
