

Robert Godfrey Wilson, M.D., died on June 15, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on March 18, 1937, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his father, Robert Woodridge Wilson, his mother Frances Lucile Godfrey Wilson, and by his stepmother, Julia C. Wilson. He is survived by his daughters Amy Lucille Kirchoff and Lucy Elizabeth Wilson and, by his sons, Robert Darwin and Robert Woodridge (Woody), by nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
At the age of six, Robert entered Starke University School, a private military school in Montgomery. At Starke, he completed first, second and third grades in nine months. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School at the age of 16. He began pre-medical studies at Huntingdon College in Montgomery and graduated in 1957 with majors in chemistry and biology.
On August 31, 1957, he married Dorothy Waters Wilson, and in September 1957, he entered the Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham. In May 1960, he began active duty in the U.S. Air Force and at the age of 23 he completed medical school in February 1961.
After completing medical school, Dr. Wilson began a rotating internship at Letterman General Hospital in the Presidio of San Francisco, California.
There he served in medicine, OB/GYN, surgery, pediatrics and two months in elective radiology. For three months in 1962, he trained in San Antonio, Texas to be a U.S. Air Force flight surgeon. Dr. Wilson served as a flight surgeon and a director of Aerospace Medicine at Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts. In 1965, he began his residency in therapeutic and diagnostic medicine at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City. In 1968, he began his radiology practice in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and practiced radiology full-time for thirty-six years and part-time for six years. He was board-certified in radiology in 1969 and board-certified in nuclear medicine in 1975.
Dr. Wilson was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Shawnee for 45 years and served as an official in in multiple church positions.
Robert loved traveling and took many trips with his family. He loved all sports, especially Alabama football, all animals and, of course, his beloved wife, Dorothy, whom he watched over lovingly until her passing in January 2025.
In 2013, Dorothy and Robert moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama from Shawnee, Oklahoma. While there, they were members of Trinity United Methodist Church. They lived there until December 2022, at which time they moved to Medford, Massachusetts, to be near their youngest daughter, Lucy. After spending a few months in Medford, Dorothy and Robert moved to be near their oldest daughter, Amy, who lives in Richmond, Virginia. In September
2024, they moved to be near their youngest son, Woody, in San Antonio, TX where they lived out their last days.
