Roger attended Columbus High School; professionally, he was a devoted grocery clerk, known for his work ethic.
Roger shared 34 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara Laverne Bates. He is survived by Barbara and their son, John Alan Bates; his siblings Scott and Carol Griffin. Richard Williams Jr, Kevin Williams, Barney and Ginger Bundy and Kimberly Phillips. He also had many nieces and nephews that he loved. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel Bates, and his mother, Janice Sue Williams.
A man of faith, Roger was a Pentecostal and a member of the Christian band Harvest Rain. He spent many years traveling to various churches, sharing God's word through music. His love for his family was evident in all he did, and he cherished his wife and son deeply. Roger also had a special place in his heart for his pets: Buddie, Daisy, Sampson, Sport, Rugrat, and Handsome.
Roger Alan Bates will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his unwavering faith.
