Fred was born in West point, Georgia on December 20, 1954. Parents were James Aaron Nixon and Lillian Nixon, brother, Dennis Nixon, and sister, Diane Davis. He grew up in Columbus, Georgia in the Lake Bottom area, from St. Elmo Elementary to playing Football and graduating from Columbus High School in 1973.
Fred’s passion for produce and sells started when working in grocery stores with his dad. He managed many produce departments in and around Columbus, Georgia. He took pride in his work for many years at Goolsby Foods, Lagrange Farmers Market, to becoming known as BIG FRED at Marvin's Market. Fred was an avid Auburn fan and enjoyed going to games with family and friends.
Many knew him as BIG FRED and he will always be remembered as BIG Papa, father, husband, brother, son, and friend to us all.
A celebration of Big Fred's life will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2:00 PM at West Point Train Depot, 500 3rd Ave., West Point, GA. according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.
