Born and raised in Columbus, Georgia, Ron was the second of four children to Ralph and Alice Gibson. He received a BS in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University (War Eagle!). Ron was an Army Green Beret and proudly served his country as a member of the US Army Reserve Special Forces, attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Ron had a successful career in the textile industry, working with the Bibb City Mill, Swift Textiles, Fieldcrest Cannon (Pillowtex), and several Pezold Management companies. Ron retired from the business sector to focus pastoring Grace Community Church in Fortson and serving the community.
Known affectionately throughout the valley as "Papa Ron," he devoted himself to ministering wherever hearts needed hope. Whether in local jails, at the House on Fourth, through Take the City, or simply sharing coffee and conversation at local shops, Ron brought the love of God to everyone he encountered. His genuine care and infectious faith touched countless lives throughout the community.
Ron lived and finished his race with unwavering faith. He contended for the Kingdom of God, poured himself out selflessly for others, and leaves behind a profound legacy of courage and love. His life continues to speak to all who knew him, reminding us that Jesus is the Way to encounter the Father’s love, and His love forever changes us.
Ron was blessed with 53 years of marriage to his wife, Dorothy Gibson, and three daughters: Emily Layton (Jerry), Melissa Smith (Brennan), and Charlotte Quirk (Charles), as well as his grandchildren: Viola and Kerrick.
