Columbus, Georgia- Roy L. Roughton, Jr., 78, of Columbus, Georgia died Friday, June 27, 2014 in Columbus Hospice House.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 30, 2014 in Striffler - Hamby Edgewood Hall, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus with Rev. C. Dick Reese and Rev. Gene Forehand officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Donald Hughes, Jamie Hughes, Sam Weed, David Roughton, Ryan Hughes, Brandon Smith and Bobby Williams. Honorary pallbearer will be James Hughes. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the funeral home.

Mr. Roughton was born August 31, 1935 in Pike County, Alabama the son of the late Roy Roughton, Sr. and the late Luna Nell Howard Martin. He had lived in Columbus most of his life and retired as a conductor from Norfolk Southern Railroad after forty years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Hughes Roughton; one daughter, Marlene Roughton Grant of Columbus; one son, Roy L. Roughton, III of Sharpsburg, GA; one sister, Carolyn Coody of Valdosta; one brother, C.D. Roughton of Columbus; two grandsons, Lance Lewis and Roy L. Roughton, IV; one granddaughter, Victoria Grant; several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
