Mrs. Ruby Farmer, the daughter of the late John Allen Hunt and Lona Gill Hunt of Macon, GA, was born on November 14, 1936, in Macon, Georgia. After graduating from A.L. Miller Senior High School for Girls, she worked for seven years as the Secretary to the Director of the Georgia Forestry Commission. Upon moving to Columbus, Georgia, she spent ten years as the Secretary to the President of what was then The First National Bank of Columbus. During her time at the bank, she was actively involved in Professional Secretaries International and was named Secretary of the Year in 1980. In 1981, she achieved the status of Certified Professional Secretary. After her tenure at the bank, she assisted her husband (Neal) in his independent grocery business as an office manager until it was sold in 1989.
Ruby was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church, participating in the Winsome Sunday School Class and serving as Secretary of the Keenagers for several years.
She is predeceased by her husband, R. Neal Farmer. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen F. Copeland (Jay) of Dunwoody, Georgia; her son, R. Andrew Farmer of Columbus, Georgia; her granddaughter, Elizabeth K. Copeland; and her predeceased grandson, Joseph Turner Copeland. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Lucille H. Shipman of Macon, Georgia.
