
Runette G. Taylor was born 1926 in Calhoun County, Georgia. She was the daughter of John B. Luther Garland and Annie Belle Grimes Garland. She grew up in Randolph County, Georgia and graduated as valedictorian from Cuthbert High School in Cuthbert, and Southern Business University in Atlanta. She later attended the University of Georgia Off-Campus Center and Columbus College in Columbus.
She retired as an accountant with the Muscogee County Department of Family and Children Services in Columbus, with 25 years of service. After retirement she performed many hours of volunteer service in her church.
She moved to Sebastian, Florida in 2009 making her home with her daughter and son-in-law. She was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship and Sebastian Lions Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Malcolm M. Taylor; son, Dean Whitaker; sisters Merle Marler, Frances Compton; and brothers, Neil Garland and Murray Garland.
Besides her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Norman, with whom she lived, she is survived by her sons, Michael Taylor (Jessica) of Austell, Georgia and Roland Taylor; daughter, Cheryl Gray (Bruce) both of Columbus; and a sister, Arline Stephens of Lawrenceville.
Additionally she left behind grandsons Greg Meyer, Joshua and Jacob Taylor; granddaughter Tiffany Taylor; and great-grandson Morgan Meyer and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 15, 2016 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. A Celebration of Life service on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby. Interment after the service will be at 3:00 p.m. in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus.
