
Russell Eugene Harris, 84, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2015 at his home in Panama City Beach, FL. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. in the Linwood Room of Striffler-Hamby.
Mr. Harris, son of the late Robert H. Harris and late Trolie Fennel, was born on December 6, 1930 in Quitman, GA. He grew up with two sisters, Betty and Carolyn. Gene worked his entire career with Royal Crown Cola in Columbus, GA, and was an honorable Veteran of the United States Air Force, which he served proudly. He was a graduate of Jordan High School and attended the University of Georgia where he received his certificate in Accounting. Gene was a sharp businessman, fantastic storyteller and a keen debater of politics and current events. He was honest, direct, and you knew where he stood on important issues. He was deeply loved by his family.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Ann Harris; daughter Carol “Buddy” Durie; grandson Kenneth “Kicker” Harris, Jr; and his companion of 20 years, June Bacon. Survivors include his two sons, Kenneth Harris (Carol) of Columbus, GA and Michael Harris of Ft. Mitchell, AL; cousin Janice Burns of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren Alicia Herring, Glenn Durie, Alex Durie, Angela Crane, Chris Harris, Eric Harris, Ashleigh Harris, Michael Shaver; eight great grandchildren. Gene was a loving husband and companion, father, grandfather and friend who will deeply be missed.
