

Arrangements under the direction of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.Sarah Estes Boatner, 94, of Americus, GA passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Phoebe – Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA. The family will welcome guests for visitation Friday, November 10, 2017 2-3 pm in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA. A Celebration of Sarah’s Life will begin at 3:00 pm followed by Burial at Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus, GA with Reverend William Collins officiating.
Mrs. Boatner was born May 25, 1923 to her late parents Cecil B. Estes, Sr. and Mattie Lu Wallis Estes in Phenix City, AL. She attended Wynnton and graduated from Columbus High School, The University of Georgia, and Columbus College. Along with being a Girl Scout Leader, Sarah was a Kindergarten and Substitute Teacher for Muscogee County School for 32 years before retiring in 1998. She was a past Member of Wynnton United Methodist Church and the Goodwill Sunday School Class. Mrs. Boatner loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Along with her parents Mrs. Boatner was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Vernon Boatner, Sr. son, James Vernon Boatner, Jr. of Leesburg, GA; three brothers, Cecil Estes, Jr., Dan W Estes and Pete Estes. She is survived by: daughter, Ann (Emmitt) Johnson of Beaufort, NC; daughter in-law Debra Boatner of Leesburg, GA ; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Rob) Taylor of Greensboro, NC, Pamela(Tom) Wray of Greensboro, NC, Jamie Darlington of Leesburg, GA, and James Vernon Boatner III of Leesburg GA; six great grandchildren, Daniel (Lauren) Taylor, Brittany (Ricky) Horton, Michael Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Eric Morris, and Jaden Darlington ; one great-great grandson, Landry Taylor; one sister, Lois Estes Floyd of Columbus, GA; nieces, nephews other family members, and a host of friends.
