Sarah Mathis Crawford, 81, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on November 9, 2021. A visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. and a funeral service for Sarah will be held on Monday, November 15, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Wynnton United Methodist Church. Mrs. Crawford will be laid to rest at Parkhill Cemetery.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 7, 1940, to the late Ambrose Powell and Louise Moon Mathis. Sarah graduated from Georgia State College for Women, in Milledgeville, GA, and received a B.A. in Mathematics. After graduation she taught algebra. Sarah married Edgar Blakeley Crawford on June 22, 1963 where they spent 26 years together before his passing in 1989. She was a mother and fulltime homemaker until 1989 when she took over her husband’s business, Muscogee Textiles, INC. She was a member of Wynnton UMC. Sarah had a passion for her church, math, and charity work. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Louise Mathis; her husband, Edgar Crawford; and sister, Louise Mathis Fears.
Those left to cherish her memories are her three daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Crawford, Susan Crawford Williams (Tim), and Katherine Crawford Smith (Bart); grandchildren, Edgar “Ed” Beck Williams and Crawford “Ford” Timmerman Williams.
