
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Wynnton United Methodist Church with a private entombment in Parkhill Cemetery according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. Rev. Frank Parr, Rev. Cindy Bennett, and Rev. Janet Cavin will officiate. The family will receive friends 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the church. Active pallbearers will be Josh Greer, Harold Hill, Dennis Davis, Chris Register, Marcus Hunter, and Ronald Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Goodwill Sunday School Class.
Mrs. Ragan was born July 20, 1929 in Chester, MS, daughter of the late William Allen King and the late Laura Mae Biggers King. She was a graduate of Chester High School and Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College in Wesson, MS. She had lived in Columbus for the past sixty three years and was a homemaker and later retired as a marketing representative from United Cities Gas Company in 1994 after twenty years of service.
Mrs. Ragan was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church since 1949, Chancel Choir, Alter Guild, United Methodist Women, Goodwill Sunday School Class, Columbus Exchange Club, and St. Francis Auxillary and served as a Pink Lady Volunteer.
Mrs. Ragan was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Ragan, Jr., a son-in-law, John B. DeMent, five sisters, and six brothers.
Survivors include her children, William D. "Billy" Ragan, III and his wife, Vicki, Cynthia D. DeMent, Lisa R. Griffith and her husband, Sid; one sister, Kathy Wilkes and her husband, George of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, Renee' Ragan, Ellen Greer and her husband, Josh, Sarah Beth DeMent, Caroline DeMent, Ragan Griffith, and Sid Griffith, III; a great-grandson, Hunter Michael Greer; niece, Laura King Herring.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Endowment Tree of Life Fund of Wynnton United Methodists Church, 2412 Wynnton Road, Columbus, GA 31906.
