Shelbie J. Overby, age 79, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. She was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on August 17, 1945. Shelbie was a Class of 1964 Jordan High School Redjacket. She met the love of her life, Ronald “Ronnie” Overby, Sr. at Shoney’s Restaurant on Macon Road when she was out with her girlfriends. They were married on June 26, 1964 and together called Columbus home raising their two sons, Ronald “Bruce” Jr. and Michael Overby. Shelbie worked for many years in retail sales. She was a valued representative of Mansour’s Department Store from 1984 until 2005 for many families in the community. After Mansour’s Shelbie worked at Dillard’s, Parisians, and Macy’s Department Stores. She retired from Macy’s to enjoy her retirement years with her loving husband, Ronnie.
Shelbie was a dedicated, supportive, and loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She instilled her Christian values with her sons through her love of others and helping others.
Shelbie is survived by her loving husband, Ronald "Ronnie" Overby, Sr.; her sons: Ronald "Bruce" Overby, Jr. (Christina) and Michael Overby (Emily); her grandchildren Katie Overby, Kyle Overby, and Matthew Overby; her great grandchildren: Huner Overby, Mason Meador and Camden Overby; her sisters: Judy (Alvin) Davis and Joyce (Larry) Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Shelbie was preceded in death by her mother Hilda Fowler and her father Raymond Fowler.
A visitation for family and friends for Shelbie will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery at Chapel of Pines Mausoleum, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM.
