Columbus, Georgia- Shirley Jean Pavlovich, age 81, resident of Columbus, died Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Mrs. Pavlovich was born November 17, 1933 in Altoona, PA. She married Ivan “Duke” Pavlovich, Sr. and travelled the world with her husband, who served in the U.S. Army for over 25 years. When her husband retired from the military, Jean and Duke settled in Columbus, GA., where she raised her family and worked in the dietary department of Columbus Medical Center. Upon her retirement from the Medical Center, Mrs. Pavlovich volunteered at the Medical Center, teaching diet techs and visiting patients. She was an accomplished cook and baker and avid NASCAR fan. For many years, Mrs. Pavlovich and her friends scored the stock car races at East Alabama Motor Speedway, in Phenix City, AL. Her annual lasagna dinner to celebrate the NASCAR season was legendary.
Mrs. Pavlovich was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a devoted friend, and mother of four sons, all of whom survive her; Robert, of Tulsa, OK., Ivan II and his wife Kathleen, of Atlanta, GA., George “Sam”, of Columbus, GA., and Leslie and his partner Gary Little, of Pensacola, FL. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Sheila and two great granddaughters, of New Orleans, LA.; sister, Mickie Cover of Altoona, PA.; several nieces, nephews, their spouses and children.
A Graveside service will be held in Parkhill Cemetery on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 10:00am with Father Frank Patterson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd. Columbus, GA 31909.
