Shirley Jean Spear, age 83, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022. Shirley was born August 10, 1938 in Greenwood, Mississippi to the late Hallie Moore Perry and Willie C. Perry.
She was married to the late Wiley M. Spear for 60 years. Together, they made Columbus home. Shirley was Christian by faith and called Edgewood Baptist Church her church family for over 50 years. She was a retired accounting clerk for the City of Columbus, GA. After her retirement, she and Wiley loved to travel across country. Shirley loved her family and adored her granddaughters, Stephanie and Emily, who were her heart along with her great-grandchildren, Carter and Avery. Her beloved dog, Chloe, was her constant companion for 12 years.
Shirley is survived by her son Rodney Spear (Amy) of West Point GA; granddaughters Stephanie Barron (Brady) of Fortson GA and Emily Cronic (Chandler) of Fortson GA;
her great-grandchildren Carter Cronic and Avery Barron; her special niece and nephew Marlene Dodelin (Fred), and Eddie Ray (Deborah) and many other family members whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband Wiley Spear, her parents Hallie and Willie Perry, and her sisters Obie Lee Hartley and Hazel Shannon.
A private, family graveside service for Shirley will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
