Sidney Harvey Levine, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the age of 91. Sid was born in New London, CT to the late William and Caroline Pinkowicz Levine. He graduated from New London High School in 1953. Sid served our country through the U.S. Army form 1954 - 1964 and attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He was a veteran of both the Korea and Vietnam Wars. As an Army aviator Sid flew H-37 helicopters. He received several medals of Honor to include the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal Ribbon. After his Army tenure, Sid began his career as a mental health and addiction practitioner. He received his PhD. from Auburn University and Columbia Pacific University. During his medical career, he served as a consultant to the U.S. Surgeon General and U.S. Army Medical Command and received the Superior Civilian Service Award. Sid was also a member of the Rose Hill Masonic Lodge #484 and a member of MENSA.
Sid married the love of his life, Sandra Hursey Levine on August 3, 1961. They had one son, Alan Keith Levine. Sid loved talking about his Army days and his pilot adventures. He enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table, watching the birds and smoking his pipe. Sid also loved watching CNN.
In addition to his parents, Sid was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Levine, his son, Alan Keith Levine, and his sister, Lillian Justine Avery. Sid is survived by his brother, Dennis Levine of New London, CT, numerous nieces and nephews, his loving caregivers for many years, Versaline Hoskins, Janet Morgan, Teresa Hinton, and Tosha Trice, and his devoted friend Toni Cash.
Visitation for Family and Friends will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907, on July 16, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 am with Rabbi Beth Schwartz officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
