
A service in celebration of his life will be held Monday, February 21st, 11a.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church. A private burial will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled Sunday, February 20th, 5:30 to 7:30p.m., Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Macon Road. Pallbearers are Tom Hart, Otie Gilliam, Eddie Branch, Steve Taylor, Lee Champion, John Dedwylder, Roger Boutwell, Johnny Jackson, and Frank Flournoy.
Construction was his career, beginning with James Welch Construction Co. and evolving into his ownership of Steve Cummings Construction Co. for the last 22 years. He renovated many area homes and buildings, including The Historic District. An accomplished and avid outdoorsman, Stevie hunted all seasons and was a true and committed “Auburn Man” who rarely missed a game. He coached Peach Little League and Clubview football for many years and numerous young men and women still fondly call him “Coach.”
A lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a much loved and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and loyal friend to many, Stevie is survived by his wife of 38 years Gail Welch Cummings, sons Carson Cummings (Barbara) and Brad Cummings, grandsons Carson, Ford, and Jac Cummings, sisters Sandra Cummings Charlton (Rick) and Melinda Cummings Strickland (Phil), brothers Jimmy Cummings (Jane) and David Cummings, and his aunt Jenny Johnson with whom he shared a love for gardening. He is preceded in death by his parents Gloria Johnson Cummings and James Edwin Cummings, Sr.
