A graduate of Hardaway High School, Stephen proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. During his distinguished military career, he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7), earned the honor of NCO of the Year, and ultimately retired after serving as a United States Army recruiter. He wore the American flag with pride and remained a devoted patriot and proud veteran throughout his life.
Above all, Stephen was a devoted father and an incredibly proud grandfather. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and watching them grow. He is lovingly survived by his children: Stephen (Liz), Kara (Terry), Vivian (Austin), and Alex (Trinity). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Kash Bills and Elaine Noell, who brought immeasurable happiness to his life.
Stephen shared a special bond with his cousin Jim and treasured the relationship he had with his brother Charles. Family always came first, and he was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
Stephen was preceded in death by his beloved parents; his brothers, Michael and Charles; and his beloved son, Brian.
Stephen found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time at the beach, catching the biggest waves, and hanging out at Funland. He was fascinated by changing weather patterns and could spend hours watching storms roll in. He loved watching baseball and especially enjoyed playing golf with his son Alex. He adored his pets and never missed an opportunity to make those around him laugh with his endless jokes and love of classic comedy, especially Monty Python and The Three Stooges. He also enjoyed following NASA and SpaceX missions, watching fireworks light up the sky, and was a proud, flag-loving American who never lost his deep appreciation for his country.
Stephen will be remembered as a man of honor, integrity, humor, and unwavering dedication. Whether serving his country, caring for his family, or making someone smile with one of his jokes, he left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His legacy of service, love, laughter, and patriotism will continue to live on through his family and all whose lives he touched.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
Rest in peace, Stephen. Your watch is complete, and you will never be forgotten.
