Steven Donald Oliver, a resident of Cataula, Georgia, passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 55. Born on February 20, 1971, Steven was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, known for his selflessness and passion for family and career.
Steven proudly served in the Army for 20 years, including his service in Operation Iraq Freedom. He was honored with the Bronze Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Natural Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. After his military service, Steven continued his career at Fort Benning, where he worked for 16 years as a 9IM training specialist and course manager in the Bradley Training Division. He furthered his education by attending Central Texas College, graduating with an Associate's degree in 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Dean Oliver and Doris Anderson Oliver, his sister Donna Kemmerer, and his nephew Matthew Ball.
Steven is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Poksun Kang Oliver, and their two sons, Samuel Donald Oliver of Cataula, GA, and Steven Donald Oliver Jr. (Naomi), his granddaughter, Isabella Marie Oliver, all of Columbus, GA. Steven is also survived by his siblings, Laura Conger (Roy) of Collinville, IL, Ricky Oliver (Missy) of Orange City, FL, Randy Oliver of Shiloh, IL, Susan Inkley of Farmington, MO, Charles Oliver (Gina) of Belleville, IL, Linda Joyce (Donnie) of New Athens, IL, Doris Ball (Kevin) of Ofallon, IL, Marilyn Helfrich of Smithton, IL, Nancy Ritter (Steve) of New Athens, IL, Karen Burnette (Mark) of West Springfield, MA, Marcie Johns (Jay) of Freeburg, IL, Russell Oliver (Brittany) of Gulfport, MS, Dennis Oliver (Christy) of Lebanon, OH, and Donald Oliver (Tina) of Lebanon, OH.
Steven was a Nascar enthusiast who loved the beach and enjoyed taking his youngest son, Sammy, to car shows and races. He had a deep affection for his dogs and enjoyed barbequing and savoring good food. A movie aficionado, Steven was adept at recalling actors' names and spotting easter eggs in films. Above all, he was known as a patient and kind man, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and devotion to his loved ones.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, located at 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907, on February 26, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location beginning at 3:00 pm.
