Sue Ann Edwards Dixon, 79, of Columbus, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907 with a visitation one hour prior.
Sue Ann was born on August 22, 1946, to Elizabeth and Lewis Edwards in Columbus, Georgia. In 1970 she graduated from Trevecca Nazarene College with a Specialist in Education and used that degree towards her job as an Elementary Teacher and ended as an Elementary Educational Technologist at Stowers Elementary in Ft. Benning DODEA. She met her husband, Everett, her freshmen year while attending Trevecca, whom she was married to for 54 years.
She attended the Nazarene Church for years and was currently attending Faith Bible Methodist Church where she played the piano, organ and accordion for most of her life. She also loved to sing in duets, trios and quartets and was an avid Braves and Georgia Bulldog Football fan. As a former Miss Georgia Pageant Board Member, she served as the co-founder of the Miss Georgia Teen Pageant and a faithful sponsor of the Sue Ann Dixon Spirit Award. Surely, the Pearly Gates opened as she approached Heaven, and they built a runway for her to walk on as she entered Glory to receive her own crown.
Sue Ann was a family-oriented woman with deep faith, a love for the beach and a personality that drew everyone to her. For 54 beautiful years, Sue Ann shared a deep and abiding love with her husband, Everett. Their marriage was a testament to partnership, laughter and unwavering commitment. She cherished every moment by his side, creating a home filled with warmth and love. She also adored her beloved dog, Gigi, who brought her endless companionship and smiles.
She was a devoted mother to her children, pouring her heart into nurturing and celebrating them. But it was her grandchildren who lit up her world like nothing else. Sue Ann’s love for them knew no bounds – She lived for their hugs, their stories, their milestones, and their laughter. To her own grandchildren, she was “Grandma” but to countless others, she became Grandma, too. Many of her grandchildren’s friends adopted her loving spirit, whether blood related or chosen, family was her greatest treasure.
Sue Ann was the life of the party wherever she went. She never met a stranger, and she had the gift of turning any room into a gathering place within seconds, holding a captive audience with her warmth, humor, and spunky sass. She had a heart of gold and always put others before herself. To know Sue Ann, even for a moment, was to be forever changed. She lived by the motto, “live every day like it’s your last”, embracing life with grace, dignity and an abundance of laughter. Her memory will continue to bring smiles, comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to love her. To know her was to love her, and she will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lewis Evan “Buddy” Edwards; her mother, Elizabeth Perry Edwards; her brother, David Lewis Edwards and her daughter, Rebecca Elizabeth Dixon. She is survived by her husband, Everett Elvin Dixon III; her children, Karen Grohman (Lance), Libbi Scoggins (Scott), Everett “Rhett” Dixon IV, Donald Keith Dixon (Cathy), Steven Lawrence Dixon (Teresa); her grandchildren, Jonathan Andrew Stewart, Jr., Alyssa Anne Scoggins, Jacob Anthony Scoggins (Noah), Luke Everett Scoggins, Ben Dixon, Jenny Britt (Kyle), Travis Dixon (Maddy) and Patelyn Bailey; 4 great grandchildren, her siblings, Dana Ingram (Marti), Tama Ingram, and Gina Ingram; her sister in laws, Debbie Edwards and Leona Risby and several nieces and nephews.
