Sue Marie Thompson Turner August 28, 1929 – May 8, 2014 Columbus, GA Sue Marie Thompson Turner, 84, of Columbus, GA, died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 10, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke United Methodist Church with the Reverend Robert Beckum officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 A.M. in St. Luke’s Stockwell Hall prior to the service A private interment will be held at Park Hill Cemetery following the church service. Mrs. Turner was born on August 28, 1929, in Columbus, the daughter of Dr. John Barkwell Thompson and Mildred Marie Dykes Thompson. Mrs. Turner was educated in Columbus schools graduating from Columbus High School. She attended Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. She returned to Columbus to marry, William “Bill” B. Turner, in 1948, who survives her. Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her parents, her son D. Abbott Turner, II, grandson David Bradley Brown, and great-granddaughter, Gardiner Mae Turner. Married to her one true love Bill Turner for 65 years, Mrs. Turner was devoted to her family and being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Known as “Precious” to her family, she joyously attended hundreds of ball games, dance recitals and birthday parties. She was a fiercely loyal friend to her beloved bridge group, which would mobilize in a moment’s notice to go to the aid of anyone suffering a loss or tragedy. Precious always brought laughter and gentle humor to help lighten the day. According to her children, Mrs. Turner was the center of the family. She and Mr. Turner modeled a wonderful marriage. She was very strong willed and fiercely committed to teaching her children and grandchildren right from wrong. Her moral compass was clear and focused on raising a loving family and being a blessing to others. Mrs. Turner was committed to her faith, her family and the community. One of her greatest gifts was her ability to make each person she met feel special, because indeed they were to her. Mrs. Turner is survived by her husband, William B. "Bill" Turner of Columbus; children Donna Turner Brown (David) of Atlanta; WilliamBradley “Brad” Turner, Jr. (Sally) of Columbus; Marie Turner Moshell of Columbus; John Thompson Turner (Amandah) of Columbus; Sarah “Sallie” Turner Martin (John) of Columbus, and daughter-in-law Cathey Seguin Turner of Columbus. She is also survived by her grandchildren Cameron Brown Richard (Paul); William McKnight Brown (Alice); John “Jay” Sterling Brown; William “Bill” Bradley Turner, III (Katherine); Jack Gwaltney Turner (Ashley); Barbara “Bobsie” Jeanne Turner; Mildred “Millie” Marie Turner; William Turner Moshell, II (Michele); Lane Moshell Riley (Chandler); Sue Marie Moshell Waddell (Bradley); John Thompson Turner, Jr.; Joseph Gardiner Turner; Bradley Orion “Rion” Turner; Mary Katherine “Katie” Martin Krieg (Justin); Elizabeth Dykes Martin; Lulie Martin Wallace (Harrison); John Catlett Martin, III; William Clark Turner (Lori); Don Abbott “Abb” Turner, III (Kayla); Ashley Seguin Turner, Brook Delaney Turner, and twenty great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. John Daniel Thompson of Chestnut Mountain, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to her caregivers for the loving, compassionate care that they gave Mrs. Turner. Special thanks to Betty Cardin, Eula Davis, Helen Herbert, Gladys Jolly, Kristie Long, and Anthony Wallace. They also want to give a special thanks to the caring staff of Columbus Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to The Food Pantry at St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Sue Marie Turner Women’s Hospital at St. Francis, the Pastoral Institute, Columbus Hospice or a charity of your choice.
