Obituary of Sylvia Ann Applewhite
Sylvia Ann Applewhite passed away on September 14, 2022 in Columbus, Georgia at the age of 81. She was born in Cottondale, Florida on Valentine’s Day in 1941. Sylvia married Cecil Earl Applewhite on Halloween of 1956, they were teenage sweethearts. Sylvia and Earl made Columbus, Georgia home. Together they loved going to the beach, spending time with family and friends at the cabin they built on the lake. She liked spending the weekends that involved a good fish fry surrounded by family and friends. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved her family, they were her everything. Sylvia was a gift to other families as well; she was a teacher and caregiver to many children in the Columbus area in her home for over 30 years. Sylvia was a paraprofessional at Downtown Elementary in Columbus and retiring from Matthews Elementary. She was Christian by faith. Sylvia attended New Beginnings Fellowship in Phenix City, Alabama where she was one of the founding members of the church. She was the member who gave the church its name New Beginnings Fellowship. She is preceded in death by her mama and daddy, Voncile Earnest Brown and Leroy Brown and her father Clarence Alan Davis. Sylvia leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her loving husband Earl Applewhite; her loving children: Kenny Applewhite (deceased), Kitty (Hank) Flowers, Jeff (Sherri) Applewhite, and, Shawn (Jeanie) Applewhite; her loving daughter-in-law Tina Applewhite; her beloved grandchildren: Kelli (Austin) Michaud, Amanda (Dustin) Chamberlain, Tyler (Ashley) Flowers, Travis (Ashlee) Applewhite, Peyton Applewhite, Parker Applewhite, Chelsea Applewhite, Alex Applewhite, and Rainey Applewhite (deceased); her beloved great grandchildren: Braylee, Browden, Bryeson, and Brigges Applewhite; Conner, Colton, and Camden Michaud; Rykin, Skylar, and Haley Chamberlain; and Brannon Chitwood. A service to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 12 noon in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. Family will visit with friends before the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery following the service.
