Thomas “Tommy” Edward Drew Sr., age 92, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. A visitation for Tommy will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. A funeral service will occur Monday, July 7, 2025 at 2:00 PM, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. .
Tommy was born on October 4, 1932 to the late John Joseph Drew Sr. and Josephine Drew in Fort Benning, Georgia. He attended and graduated from Baker High School in 1951. He worked as a civil servant between 1951 and 1953 before he was drafted to the Army in June of 1953, he served his country in Germany until 1955. While serving his country he played on the Army Baseball Team and was later drafted by the Baltimore Orioles.
He loved sports, the team and sports he loved the most was Alabama football. He played fast pitch softball for the Little Joes and Villa Nova. He was the starting catcher on two National Championship Teams . Tommy loved coaching, he coached the Edgewood Red Devils from 1966 and 1990. He worked for First National Bank and Wells Fargo for over twenty-five years, after retiring he became a bailiff for the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Department. Tommy was an animal lover; dogs however were his favorite. He loved playing Golf, especially with his Thursday Red Oak Golf Group and spending his mornings with his Burger King Breakfast friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph and Josephine Drew, his sister Victoria, his brother John Joseph Jr., his in-laws Homer and Ruby Davis, as well as his niece Pamela Highnote.
Tommy is survived by a large and loving family. Those of which include, his wife of 66 years, Barbara Davis Drew; his son, Thomas E. Drew Jr. (Kelly); daughter, Terri Drew Massa (Frank); sisters-in-law Delores Drew and Martha Highnote; brother-in-law Homer Davis, Jr. (Becky), nephews, John Drew III (Ashley), Wes Drew, Chris Drew (Murial), Brad Davis (Jill); great nephews, Christopher King, Jonathan King; nieces, Connie King (Ralph), Natalie Davis; great niece, Magan Tanner (J.T); grandchildren, Daulton Drew (Sarah), Avery Drew Edmonds (Dayton), Morgan Massa Giles (Todd), Frank Massa IV (Briana), Phillip Massa (Raquel), Ryan Simpson (Jinks), and Kendall Ferrell (Will); as well as great-grandchildren, Hadi, Daxton, Amelia, Sutton, Maggie, Emma, Ella, Savannah, Jaxon, Nash, Raynes, Riggins, Ireland, Davis, and Briggs.
