Columbus, GA- Staff Sergeant Geeter Wilson Boone, 69, of Columbus, Georgia transitioned to his eternal home on July 25, 2014. SSG Boone was born to the late Jeter and Verdie Boone on August 12, 1944 in Jackson, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Gumberry High School in Gumberry, North Carolina. He later received an Associates Degree from Georgia Military College.
Vistiation will be Wednesday July 30, 2014 6:00-8:00 PM in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler- Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. A Celebration of Life Service officiated by Rev James Gant, will be in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 11:00 am , followed by a Committal Service with full Military Honors at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Seale AL.
Along with his parents, Staff Sergeant Boone is preceded in death by three brothers; Herman Boone, Daniel Boone and Larry Boone, and two sisters; Pearline Baker, and Vergie L. Futrell. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Justine Boone, four sons: Larry Boone, Chris Boone, Lamont Boone, and Shawn Hurt, one daughter; Gwen Williams, brother; Ralph Boone, sister; Irene Saunders, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
SSG Boone served in the United States Army for 20 years. He served one tour of duty in both Vietnam and Korean and several deployments in Europe. After his military career he was Deputy Warden at the Muscogee County Prison until retirement.
