Vallie Lee "Pat" Stansell October 2, 1927- May 18, 2015 Columbus, Georgia- Vallie Lee "Pat" Smith Stansell, 87, of Columbus, Georgia passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 at Brookdale of Columbus. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby with Dr. Kevin Calhoun and Reverend Sean Heggood officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday at 1:00 PM in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby. Mrs. Stansell, daughter of the late Thomas Kinney Smith and Maggie Speir Smith, was born October 2, 1927 in Forsyth, Georgia. She graduated from Mary Persons High School, and earned a scholarship to Bessie Tift College where she obtained her Secretarial Degree. After that, she obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing 1 Degree from The Medical Center where she worked for the practice of Dr. C. Denton Johnson, Dr. Todd and Dr. Jernigan in Columbus, Georgia, where she retired from. Mrs. Stansell was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Raymond Smith, Roger Smith and Cecil Smith; her two sisters Katherine Smith and Rachel Lynch. Survivors include her beloved husband of 67 years, J. Riley Stansell; son James L. Stansell (Nancy) of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren Jamie Luther (Justin) and James L. Stansell III (Molly); great grandchildren Ashton Luther and George Stansell, nieces, nephews and other friends.
