Ginny grew up on a farm in Fitzgerald during the Depression where nothing was wasted and economy was essential. This would explain why, years later, she served tripe and cow’s tongue to her family every week for years. But with her trusty black skillet she would fry up almost any animal or vegetable to a perfect golden brown. Catfish, chicken, eggplant, and okra were her specialties. She enjoyed preparing meals and visitors were often encouraged to stay for supper. She was a true southern hostess and made all of her many friends and acquaintances feel welcome.
Ginny was a devoted and loving mother, wife and homemaker. She began working for Columbus College, now Columbus State University, in 1959. She worked as a bookkeeper and remained there for 22 years.
After she retired, Ginny stayed busy, she was always in motion. She took joy in being a grandmother. She was a volunteer at the Sibley Center at Callaway Gardens and volunteered as a Pink Lady at St. Francis Hospital. She was also a Daughter of the American Revolution. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbus for decades and a dedicated volunteer at the church library. She greatly enjoyed travelling around the United States with friends. Ginny loved gardening. She was especially talented at growing roses. She was also a talented seamstress and made many beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters.
Ginny was loved by her family and friends, and we’ll all miss her. The family is very grateful to the staff at The Greenhouse at Calvary for the excellent and loving care you provided. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Fred, in Park Hill Cemetery, and a memorial service will be held a later date.
