W. Wayne Merritt

W. Wayne Merritt, 81, of Columbus, GA, went to meet his Heavenly Father June 25th, 2021. He was born in Powdersville, South Carolina on April 7th, 1940 to Willie “Bill” and Wilma Merritt. Wayne graduated from Furman University. He was married to his loving wife, Connie for 53 years.

After 36 years working in the textile industry, Wayne retired from Johnston Industries and began working at Beacon University. He finished out his career preparing taxes at H&R Block. He was a devout Baptist his whole life and served in many roles in the church over the years. Wayne was passionate about his work and those around him will remember him for his strong work ethic and devotion to his family. One of his favorite pastimes was enjoying sports, particularly watching the Atlanta Braves and college football.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Judy Evitt, and his brothers, Carrol Merritt and Terry Merritt.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Merritt, daughter, Gina Merritt Reynolds (Stephen), son, Roger Hall, granddaughters, Jennifer Curtsinger (Micah), Sheri Hall, Amanda Gonzales (Jeremy), Kayla Lenz (Gary), Keri Hall Shipp, Ashley Bailey (Jamie), Reagan Reynolds, brother, Charles Merritt, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral arrangements will be held at 3 p.m., June 29th, 2021 at Striffler Hamby with interment immediately following at Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
