

Walt Pollock III was born on April 11, 1978 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Walter Arthur Pollock, Jr. and Chun Ok Tidd. Walt grew up in Columbus, GA and graduated from Jordan Vocational High School as the Class of 1996. Walt served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1998-2002, earning the rank of Corporal and finishing his service at Headquarters Battalion 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton in California. His specialties were Rifleman and Marine Security Force Guard. He was honored with the Humanitarian Service Medal, two Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy and Marine Overseas Service Ribbon, Rifle Marksman Badge, Pistol Sharpshooter Badge, Rifle Expert Badge, Vice Rifle Marksman Badge, among many additional commendations.
He joined Gwinnett County Police Department in March of 2003 and was a member of the 56th Academy Class. He served Gwinnett County in the North, West, and East Precincts. He served in the Crime Prevention Unit and Criminal Investigations Division and earned the rank of Master Police Officer. During his time in the Crime Prevention Unit, Walt completed 120 hours of training and was a member of the National Crime Prevention Council. He served with the Gwinnett County Police Department through 2019 with many of his years in the Uniform Division. He was honored with Letters of Appreciation for his service to the department as well as the Officer of the Month for October of 2018 for showing “professionalism, work ethic, and above all, concern for each other and the public they serve”.
At the end of 2019, Walt transferred to Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office, serving as a Master Deputy. He began as a Background Recruiter and then served with his K9 Bomb Dog, Tina, at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. Deputy Pollock and K9 Tina spent many hours working hard together, completing the Basic K9 Handlers Explosive Course, the Explosive Detector Dog Certification, and the FBI Explosive Awareness & IED Familiarization Course for K9's. They were also members of The National Narcotic Detector Dog Association. Walt loved his dog Tina! In 2023, Walt celebrated 20 years of devoted and invaluable service to the residents of Gwinnett County.
Walt was most proud of his son, Tristan, and loved to watch him play football and compete at track meets. They enjoyed going to the movie theater to see Marvel and Star Wars movies together since Tristan was little. Walt had many great friendships he maintained with fellow Marines and fellow law enforcement. He loved to travel and enjoyed playing golf, especially with his Dad. He loved to cook and serve people food. He had a very impressive cologne collection of around 200 different bottles and continued to add to it. He enjoyed early morning workouts in the gym with his friends. Walt was the fearless leader of his Fantasy Football League for more than 15 years and his team was known as "Rock of Giwalter". He also loved football weekends and playing cornhole. He was a lifelong fan of Notre Dame, Alabama, and the Indianapolis Colts. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
In addition to his father, Walt is preceded in death by his sisters, Sandy and Wendy. Survivors include his son, Tristan Pollock; mother, Chun Ok Tidd; stepmother, Sandra Larkin; stepfather, Wayne Tidd; brother-in law, Mark Komendantov; nephews, Sean Komendantov and Ethan Komendantov; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held for Chip on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 1:00PM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM, at The Cross Loganville, 3275 Tig Night Road, Loganville, Georgia 30052.
