

Walter B. Hammock, age 70, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Saturday February 3, 2018. Walter was born June 11, 1947 in Columbus, Georgia to his late parents, Walter Howard and Doris Drew Hammock. Walter was a lifetime resident of Columbus. He graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1965 and as a student at Columbus College, was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served his country proudly during the Vietnam Conflict. After being honorably discharged from the military, Walter graduated from Columbus College and began his career as a banker where he helped many families with their financial needs. Walter spent most of his career with what is now known as Regions Bank. After retiring, he became a substitute teacher for the Muscogee County School System. Walter was an avid golfer and member of Bull Creek Golf Course for 40 years, a fan of Auburn Athletics, a member of The Kiwanis Club, and a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church.
Along with his parents, Walter is preceded by one child, Walter Pascal Hammock. He is survived by: Carol Moon Hammock, his wife of 46 years; his son, Cason Carlisle Hammock and wife Aimee of Columbus; his daughter, Jennifer Hammock Mummert and husband Michael of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Caroline, Cate, and William Mummert, and Yates Hammock; brother, Richard Hammock and wife Jean of Phenix City; many nieces and nephews; his dogs, Polo and Penny; other family members and many friends.
The family will welcome guests for Visitation Tuesday, February 6, 2018, 5–7 pm at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. A Celebration of Walter's life will be held Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:00 am at Wynnton United Methodist Church, 2412 Wynnton Road, Columbus, Georgia 31906. Honorary pallbearers will be his Sunday School Class, The New Seekers. Services will be officiated by Reverend Doctor Rick Mitchell, Reverend Doctor Frank Parr, and Reverend Doctor Kevin Calhoun.
