Wanda Diane Payne-Watford, age 62 of Columbus, GA, passed away March 9, 2018. A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11:00 am at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.

Wanda was born on July 9, 1956 in Phenix City, AL; the daughter of Earnest Rudolph Payne and Jettie Lou Williamson, Jettie married Gene Watford and he adopted Wanda. She graduated from Jordan High School, then attended and graduated from Auburn University and later attended Phillips College for Accounting.

Loving, caring, and forgiving are three attributes that best describe Wanda. She lived her life to the fullest; she was an avid reader, especially novels; she loved to cheer on her Auburn Tigers; she enjoyed good conversation with a good cup of coffee, of course it was decaf.; her pets held a special place in her heart they were her children especially her dog Bella and her cats Kate and Allie; and you could always count on her for a good laugh, sometimes laughing uncontrollably as she told the story or joke. She taught us so much, how to love unconditionally; to tell the people you love, that you love them; and what it meant to be a true friend.

Wanda is preceded in death by: Rudolph Payne; her adopted father, Gene Watford; a nephew Ronald “Ronnie” Payne Jr. Survivors include: her mother Jettie Watford; two brothers Ronald (Lynda) Payne Sr., Mike (Deidre) Watford; a nephew John Michael Watford; a niece Michelle Payne, aunt Betty Sims, and two cousins Lorraine Beaver and Candice Beaver.

I knew Wanda for a short span on this earth. She was an extremely loving and caring person. The world needs more people like Wanda, she will be greatly missed. My condolences to the family. Wanda always spoke of her love for her mother especially and her family and pets. May she rest in peace.

Wanda and I were friends for decades. Our friendship was one where we could go great lengths of time between visits and simply pick up as if we saw each other the day before. We shared many of the same passions: horses, dogs, parrots and reading to name a few. Wanda went with me to a friends barn last August to feed the horses. Her infectious smile here with Donnie says it all, she will be missed.

My memories of Wanda began when I was a girl. Countless hours at Shamrock Stables with the horses, more with my aunt, Kaye Hatcher Johnston, at horse shows, dog shows, bowling with my brother Bud, going to the movies, out for a meal or just hanging out. A few years later more time was shared at Kritters where Wanda worked with our family, never for our family, because she was family. She has been dear friend, a trusted confidante and someone that just made my heart LOL!. Her random phone calls and just checking in touch bases will be deeply missed. Prayers for her family and others that loved her. God bless.

My sincere condolences to the family at this time of loss. Please draw comfort from the scriptural promises at Acts 24:15 and Rev 21:3, 4 knowing that God cannot lie (Isaiah 46:10, 11).
