Columbus, Georgia- MSG (Ret) Wayde J. Caulder, age 87, resident of Columbus, died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Monday, August 25, 2014, 11:30 a.m. with Reverend David Cox officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 3-6 p.m.
MSG Caulder, son of the late Arthur Price Caulder and Missouri Frances Huggins Caulder, was born August 2, 1927 in Marion County, South Carolina. He was retired from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably for over 25 years. During his distinguished career, he served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and also tours in Japan, Okinawa, and Germany. He also had various stateside assignments to include several years of service at Fort Benning. MSG Caulder received numerous awards during his military career including the U.N. Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and European Campaign Medal. MSG Caulder was a proud resident of Columbus for over 60 years and was actively involved in the Columbus community. He taught at McCardles Barber and Beauty School; owned and operated Oakland Park Barber Shop; owned and operated Victory Lanes Bowling Alley; and owned and operated Caulder's Café. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Elks Club, and Baptist by faith.
MSG Caulder was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Caulder and a daughter, Shirley Hughes. He is survived by three daughters, Betty Jean Hogge of Marysville, Tennessee, Carol (Ron) Whitcomb of Stockbridge, Georgia, and Gail Johnson of Columbus; three sons, Wayde J. Caulder, Jr. of Saudi Arabia, William A. (Denise) Caulder of Cusseta, Georgia, and Mark (Michele) Caulder of Phenix City, Alabama; one sister, Carolyn (Benny) Carter of Latta, South Carolina; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
